Dr. Santanu Datta with 35 plus years of experience is the Chief Scientific Officer in Bugworks Research and a Key member in project MedNxt.com He was previously Vice President, Drug Discovery and Industrial Biotechnology at Cellworks Research India Pvt. Ltd. Prior to this, he was the Principal Research Scientist in AstraZeneca India, where he spent more than 2 decades working in Infectious diseases, with a focus on Malaria and MTB. At AstraZeneca, Mr Datta scientifically mentored programs across the discovery pipeline and pioneered many ground breaking concepts such as those of gene and chemical vulnerability. He has served as Principal Investigator in several prestigious research grants from Wellcome Trust, European Union Framework programs and the Department of Biotechnology, India. His current interest is in systems biology and its application in anti-infective drug discovery and in Industrial Biotechnology. He has published widely and has thirteen international patents. Dr. Santanu Datta received his PhD from Calcutta University in Biophysics in 1981 and was trained as a molecular biologist during his post-doctoral stint in Indian Institute of Science, Baylor College of Medicine USA and Karolinska Institute Sweden. He has 34 publications and 14 patents in his name till now.

A physician and health informatics educationist,who is regarded as a pioneer in spreading awareness of health informatics in India. Currently he is Professor in IIHMR, Delhi. From January 2013 till August 2017, he had been the Project Director, Centre for Health Informatics, National Health Portal, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India. Prior to that, he had a wide and varied experience in both healthcare and technology academia, in India and abroad. He has numerous international scholarly publications, including books. Presently, he is an Expert Advisor in the e-Learning Advisory Group (ELAG) of SNOMED-CT (2015-18). He is a member of the Expert Committee for Implementation of Standards for Electronic Health Records, and, member of Project Review and Steering Committee for the Indian NRC of SNOMED-CT, MoHFW. He is also a member of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for various committees like Health Informatics and Active Assisted Living. He is a Former Chairman [2013-2015] for Health Level Seven (HL7) India and a Former President of the Indian Association for Medical Informatics (IAMI) . He has been a Faculty and Fellow (2007-2009) of PSG-FAIMER RI, Coimbatore. He has received the AshokaChangemakers Certificate of Distinction in 2017. He is also the recipient of the prestigious SSLSM Award from the National Academy of Medical Sciences, India.
